Wedding Hire Can Save You Money on Your Wedding Day

Posted on

According to MoneySmart, the average cost of an Australian wedding is a staggering $36,200. The wedding industry is booming with the average amount spent on catering, alcohol and a venue clocking in at $18,683, whilst the next biggest cost — wedding attire and accessories — accounts for, on average, $4,271. It is easy to understand why there is such a desire to spend big on a wedding day; after all, it is a day where two people stand before each other, surrounded by their friends and family, to dedicate their lives to one another. On such a significant day, it is easy for costs to add up, fuelled by a desire to make the day one of the most memorable of their lives.

However, with the Bureau of Statistics citing the average full-time Australian salary as $78,832 per annum, the figure of $36,200 would account for 46 per cent of this yearly income. For many Australians, spending such a large amount of money on any day — even their wedding day — is either unrealistic or unappealing.

Whilst many people still choose to purchase at least some of the times for their dream wedding, a way to save money — without compromising on vision — is by choosing to hire key items for the wedding. Wedding hire can significantly reduce a wedding budget across the board, but the most notable savings can be made on two of the most costly elements of a wedding: the wedding dress and the wedding reception.

The Wedding Dress

A survey conducted by Easy Weddings found that the average amount of money spent on a wedding dress is $1,925, although 28 per cent of those surveyed spent more than $2,500 on their dress. Although a large of amount of sentimentality is often attached to a wedding dress, ultimately it is an item of clothing that is unlikely to be worn more than once. By choosing to hire a wedding dress, it is potentially possible to save upwards of $1,500, and with many designer options available, choosing wedding hire for your dress doesn't mean scrimping on style. Furthermore, costs of accessories such as a veil, tiara and jewellery all mount up, so looking into the wedding hire of these items is something that every bride should consider.

The Reception Venue

The cost of the rental of a reception venue can often account for the biggest single cost involved in a wedding. Although choosing a venue that can cater and handle every aspect of the wedding reception can seem like the easiest option, there are many alternative options available. Wedding hire of marquees, tables, chairs and even crockery can allow you to create a bespoke wedding reception that perfectly suits you and your spouse. This is a particularly attractive option if you know someone with a garden, or an area of land, that is large enough to accommodate your guests, as this grants you full autonomy over catering choices, which can reduce costs further if you choose to avoid a sit down meal in favour of a barbecue or buffet-style meal instead.
