Two Tips for Getting New Workwear When Pregnant

Posted on

It can be tricky to feel comfortable and look professional when you're pregnant and running a business; here are some tips to follow if you're expecting and need new workwear.

Look closely at the composition of the fabric of garments you like

When shopping for workwear, it's very important to pay attention to the composition of the fabrics. As a pregnant woman, you may find that you feel a lot warmer more than you did before you were expecting, due to changes in your body's hormones. Whilst this is normal and healthy, it can present problems when you're running your enterprise and need to appear cool, calm and collected.

To ensure your workwear doesn't exacerbate this issue, you should look for linen, cotton and silk garments that will let your skin breathe. However, you should not opt for things like a 100% cotton blouse; instead, you should look for one that is perhaps 98% cotton and 2% elastane. The reason for this is in addition to needing workwear that will keep you cool, you'll also need garments that will stretch with your body as your bump gets bigger. Getting items that are stretchy will enable you to wear them for more of your pregnancy before you need to size up, which will, in turn, reduce the amount of shopping you have to do and the amount of money you have to spend.

Switch up your work footwear

As your pregnancy progresses, you may need to switch up your work footwear. If you run a corporate business and usually wear heels as part of your workwear outfits, you may need to purchase shoes with smaller heels and you might have to size up, too. This is because as your weight increases, you'll put more pressure on your feet and might find heels less comfortable than you normally do.

Your balance might also be affected, which could make walking in heels harder and increase the likelihood of you falling, which could not only be risky but could also be a nuisance when you're rushing around at work. Furthermore, swelling of the feet is quite a common pregnancy symptom that might lead to your current work shoes no longer fitting.

Smart ballet flats should work well in any business setting. To accommodate further foot swelling, you should consider getting leather ballet shoes, rather than plastic ones, as the former will loosen over time and accommodate your feet if or when they swell, whilst the latter will not and will instead cut into your sore feet.
